Betty Bowen

Mrs. Betty Jean Jones Bowen age 86 of Shelby, NC, passed away Thursday, September 10, 2015 at Wendover Hospice, Shelby.
She is survived by four children, Kenneth Bowen and wife Sara, Dennis Bowen and wife Shelia, Brenda Padgett and husband Howard, Jr., and Linda Faye Bowen, all of Shelby, NC, eight grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, a brother, Lewis Jones and wife Kay of Boiling Springs, NC, a sister, Judy Delozier of Shelby, NC, a brother-in-law, Bobby Bowen and wife Shirley of Shelby, NC, and a sister-in-law, Martha Jane Crosby of Shelby, NC.
Born May 26, 1929 in Cleveland County, Mrs. Bowen was the daughter of the late Laddie Chivous and Mary Jane (Green) Jones and was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Garland Junior Bowen, and a great grandchild, Laura Padgett.
Betty was a faithful member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church and served on several committees and was a member of Esther Sunday School Class. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, crafts, oil painting, cooking, and spending time with her family and friends. Betty was an independent woman.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 pm Saturday, September 12, 2015 at Beaver Dam Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Tim Hardin, Rev. Jimmy Black, and Dr. Paul Sorrells. A visitation will be held from 1:00 - 3:00 pm prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
