Betty Ray McSwain Tate

  Mrs. Betty McSwain Tate, age 94 of Shelby, NC, passed away Friday, July 5, 2024, at Stanley Total Living Center surrounded by her family.

 She is survived by her children, Amelia Preston of Gastonia, NC, Ben Joseph Tate, Jr. (Mary) of Iron Station, NC, Regina Cronland of Lincolnton, NC, and Melanie Thompson (Matt) of Lexington, SC, eight grandchildren, John Berry Tate, Etta Marie Tucker (Greg), Wendy Willis (Sammy), April Martin, Eula Pence (Alex), Elizabeth Pearson (Stewart), Ashley Banks and Sydney Banks, nine great grandchildren, a great great grandson, a brother, Alton McSwain, a sister, Dianne Ware, and numerous nieces and nephews.

 Born March 24, 1930, in Cleveland County, NC, Betty was the daughter of the late Berry McSwain and Eula Brooks McSwain and was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Joseph Tate, Sr., a brother, Donald McSwain, and a sister, Polly Wortman.

 Betty was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church and a faithful servant of the Lord and a Christian role model that we all should strive to be. Betty enjoyed reading and studying the Bible every day. She loved spending time with her family and church friends. She will be dearly missed by all that knew her. 

 A funeral service will be held at 11:00am Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at Beaver Dam Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Tom Runyon.  A burial will follow in the church cemetery.

 In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Beaver Dam Baptist Church Building Fund, 123 Beaver Dam Church Rd, Shelby, NC 28152.
