Betty Lou Mcintyre

March 16, 1931 — February 9, 2023

Shelby, NC

Betty Patterson McIntyre, 91, of Shelby departed this earthly realm for her Heavenly Home February 9, 2023.  Born March 16, 1931 in Gastonia, NC, she was the daughter of the late Billy and Willie Mae Kerns Patterson.  She is also preceded in death by her husband of sixty-five years, Gus McIntyre, and her beloved brother, Kenneth Patterson.

Surviving are her daughter, Debby McIntyre; son, Terry McIntyre and wife Suzanne; grandson, John McIntyre and wife Stori; great-grandson, Keegan McIntyre, all of Shelby; sister’s in law, Jackie Greene of Shelby and Judy Patterson of Bessemer City; a cousin she loved as a son, Todd Patterson, of Grover, NC; and her fur-baby JoJo.

Betty grew up on a mill village and loved to talk about her childhood and friendships, two friends of which she still has contact are Ruth Caulder of Eagle Lake, FL, and Barbara Davis of Polkville.  She was a member of Pleasant City Church (Putnam Baptist) where she taught Sunday School for fifty years, was a GA leader, involved with WMU and SWAT (Seniors With A Testimony), and was the church historian. She loved sharing her faith and trust in Jesus Christ, and she loved her church and church family.

She was also involved with the Senior Center in Shelby for many years where she was awarded their volunteer of the year award in 1997 and again in 2015.  She enjoyed sharing programs with other senior groups and was involved in a few of the Center’s plays.  Betty wrote poems, short stories, her church’s history, and biographical books and sketches about her family and her mill village memories.

A celebration of her life will be held at Pleasant City Church Monday, February 13, 2023.  The family will greet guests from 2:00pm to 3:00pm, the funeral will be conducted by the Rev.’s Bryan Glisson and Gary Marburger at 3:00pm.  Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park in Shelby.

Memorials may be made to Pleasant City Church, 1146 County Home Road, Shelby, NC, or Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Dr, Shelby, NC.
