Dorothy Lloyd

Dot was born in Cleveland County, NC on May 14, 1921 to Monroe and Edna McCraw and went home to be with the Lord on October 26, 2015 at Somerset Assisted Living in Cherryville.
She spent her life in Shelby, where she attended and graduated from Shelby High School. She was employed at Dover Mill where she worked till her retirement at age 65. After retirement she volunteered at the Cleveland Memorial Hospital and the Boiling Springs Elementary School.
Dot was a devoted member of Dover Baptist Church, and she taught Sunday school there for more than 30 years, including teaching singles and senior adults, until her health began to fail. She was very involved in her church, and was a committed Christian.
She very much loved her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She seemed happiest when they were around, especially on holidays. Until her health failed, she always had a large Christmas gathering at her home for all the family and it was a delight for everyone.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Washie Lloyd, a son, Kenneth D. Lloyd, sisters, Grace Everhart and Lalla Gibson and brothers Grady, James and J.C. McCraw. She is survived by a son, Keith Lloyd, a daughter, Jayne Lloyd Minnix and her husband Dr. J. Mike Minnix, a daughter-in-law, Heidi Lloyd, as well as grandchildren: Sherry Hefner and her husband Dr. Vince D. Heffner, Christopher Minnix, Geoff Lloyd and his wife Kim, Greg Lloyd and his wife Beth, Steve Lloyd, Kathy Price and her husband Robbie. Also, she is survived by nine great grandchildren and numerous great-great grandchildren.
The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Somerset Court, Cherryville, for the loving and tender care of Dot and it will never be forgotten.
Visitation will take place at Cleveland Funeral Services Chapel in Shelby on Thursday, October 29, 2015 from 9:30 - 11:00 am followed by the funeral at the funeral home chapel at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at the Cleveland Memorial Park
