Fred Poett, Jr.

Mr. Fred Albert Poett, Jr., age 78 of Shelby, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, February 26, 2023.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Christie Nemeth Poett of the home, his children, Melissa Penalver (Thomas) of Maiden, NC, and Jessica Baker (Garland) of Cheyenne, WY, grandchildren, Nathan Penalver, David Penalver, Stephen Penalver, Melody Taylor (Steve), Jansen Baker, Danae Baker, Mathias Baker, and Delia Baker, two sisters, Barbara Hills of Terre Haute, IN, and Marcella Weaver of Terre Haute, IN, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Born January 21, 1945, in Vigo County, Indiana, Fred was the son of the late Fred Albert Poett Sr. and Annetta Mitchell Poett and was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Poett and two sisters, Norma Chamness and Judy Ferneding.

Fred was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.  He served proudly in the United States Army from 1965 -1967.  Following his time in service, he met his wife Christie in Farmersburg, Indiana and married on June 21, 1969. Fred graduated from Maranatha Baptist Bible College in Watertown, WI with a Bachelor’s Degree in Pastoral Theology in 1977. Fred loved taking pictures of various sceneries especially when he was around lighthouses.  He loved playing basketball, making cookies and spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.  Fred was a faithful Christian where he enjoyed teaching Sunday School.  Over the years, he volunteered wherever he saw a need.  Fred lived what he believed.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm Friday, March 3, 2023, at Maranatha Baptist Church conducted by Rev. James Davidson.  A visitation will be held from 1:00pm – 2:00pm prior to the service at the church.  Burial at Sunset Cemetery will be held at a later date.
