Helen Wesson Philbeck, age 84, passed away on January 28, 2021 at Wendover Hospice of Cleveland County.
She is survived by a son, Stephen Philbeck and wife, Connie of Shelby, NC a daughter, Paige Scism and husband, Joe of Lawndale, NC, three grandchildren, Justin Philbeck of Asheville, NC, and Luke and Caleb Scism of Lawndale, NC, a sister, Nancy Wagner of Garner, NC, a brother, Henry Wesson of Shelby, NC, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Born in Cleveland County on January 31, 1936, Helen was the daughter of the late Donald Alton Wesson and Luna Wallace Wesson. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, James Paul Philbeck.
Helen was dedicated to Double Springs Baptist Church where she was a member for over 50 years. She enjoyed a career at the A.S.C.S. office in Shelby for over 30 years, which is now known as the U.S.D.A. office. She loved cooking for her family at weekly gatherings. Helen was a people person who never met a stranger and just enjoyed being around friends and family.
A graveside service will be held at Cleveland Memorial Park on Monday, February 1st 2021 at 3:00pm. Mrs. Philbeck will lie in state at Cleveland Funeral Services on Monday, February 1st, 2021 from 11:00am until 2:00pm. The family requests that those attending please respect social distancing standards and wear a mask due to COVID-19.
