Irma Britton Metcalfe

   Mrs. Irma Britton Metcalfe, age 88 of Macon, GA, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, April 22, 2024.

   Born November 21, 1935, in Cherryville, NC, Irma was the daughter of the late Johnny Britton and Mary Britton Dellinger and was proceeded in death by sisters Hilda Emore (Johnny)(child Teresa) and Evelyn Aderholt (Fred) and brother, Tommy Dellinger.

      Irma married Grady Gene Metcalfe “Gene,” June 8,1957.  She graduated from Kings Business College in Charlotte, NC.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.  She loved reading the Bible, sewing, baking, teaching children’s Sunday School and spending time with her family.  She and Gene attended Zion Baptist Church when living in Shelby, NC and attended Tattnall Square Baptist Church in Macon, GA.  She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.  

   She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Gene Metcalfe, her children, Gini Ellis (Don) and Douglas Metcalfe (Kay) of Macon, GA and Deanna Metcalfe (Terri) of Atlanta, GA, one grandchild Brittany Ellis of Marietta, GA, two sisters, Audrey Metcalfe (late - Don)(children Donna & Tim) and Ann Carpenter (Danny)(children Denise & David & Anna), both of NC, and child of Evelyn (Todd), child of Tommy (Debra) granddaughter of Hilda (Ally) and numerous grand nieces and nephews.

   Subsequently, her beloved husband Gene passed away on May 7, 2024, two weeks later, and there will be a joint celebration of life service at 2:00 pm, Saturday, May 25, 2024, at Zion Baptist Church in Shelby, NC, conducted by Dr. Jim McConnell.
