James Phillip Gold (Phil)

Mr. James Phillip Gold (Phil), 83, passed away Friday, October 27, 2023 at Atrium Health-Kings Mountain. A native of Cleveland County, NC, He was born on, December 4, 1939, son of the late Sam Woodrow and Patsy Philbeck Gold Cabaniss. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by an infant brother, John Oliver Gold.

Mr. Gold is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carolyn Latham Gold of the home, one daughter, Sherri Gold McSwain and husband Steve of Shelby, four siblings, Morris Gold and wife Drew of Shelby, Bill Gold and wife Maria of Iron Station, NC, Sarah McGinnis of Shelby, Mary Tanner and husband Keith of Gastonia, two brother-in-laws, Bob Latham and wife Bonnie of Pinon Hills, CA, Tom Latham and wife Regina of Shelby, one sister-in-law, Sue Harmon and husband Wade of Boiling Springs, NC, and his beloved pet, Luna the cat, two grandsons, Tyler McSwain of Shelby, Tanner McSwain and wife Brianna of Oak Hill, WV, and his grand-dog, Reece, and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Gold was a member of Shelby Church of Christ and served in the United States Navy from 1958 to 1962.

A Celebration of Life service will be held 11:00 am Monday, October 30, 2023, in the Chapel of Cleveland Funeral Service and Crematory officiated by Minister Terry Graves. The family will greet attendees as they leave after the service. Inurnment will be at a later date at Cleveland Memorial Park.
