Joseph Glenn Allen

Mr. Joseph Glenn Allen, 76, passed away Saturday, May 6^th at his residence in Shelby.  Born on August 7, 1946, he was the son of the late Joe P. Allen and Ida Mae Allen.  He was also preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Annice Wilson Allen.  He is survived by his current beloved wife of 5 years, Joyce Allen of Shelby, his sisters and brothers Linda Elrod of Rock Hill, SC, Helen Greer of Greenville, SC, Jerry Allen and wife Kathy, and Randy Allen of Shelby.  He is also survived by his son, Ray Allen of Burbank, CA, two stepsons: Terrance Smith and wife Juanita, and Darren Smith and wife Angie, one step-grandson, Preston Smith, two step-great-grandchildren, Makinzie Smith and Ayden Brown of Shelby, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He grew up a hard-working farmer, attended Earl Elementary and Number Three High School, and worked for decades at Esther Mill.  He was always jovial and laughing, kind and generous, and was dearly loved by all who knew him.  He attended Old Rugged Cross Baptist Church, pastored by his brother, Reverend Jerry W. Allen.  He was a longtime fan of Clemson Tigers, Minnesota Vikings, and Nascar, and he loved watching Westerns.  He was also a ham radio operator and fishing enthusiast.

The family will receive friends Friday, May 12^th from noon until 2pm at Cleveland Funeral Services, 2518 W. Dixon Blvd, Shelby, NC 28150 with a celebration of life service to immediately follow, officiated by Pastor Jerry W. Allen and Pastor Tom Whitlock.  Burial will be at Cleveland Memorial Park, 1225 College Ave, Shelby, NC 28152.  Memorials may be made to Old Rugged Cross Baptist Church, 2545 Shoal Creek Church Rd, Shelby, NC 28152, and condolences may be made to Cleveland Funeral Services www.clevelandfunerlservices.com.
