Lawrence Proctor, Sr.

August 7, 1920 — May 15, 2017

Mr. Lawrence Lee Proctor, Sr., 96 of Shelby, passed away May 15, 2017 at the NC State Veterans Home in Black Mountain, NC.
He is survived by his son, Larry L. Proctor and wife Sarah of Shelby, NC, along with many nieces and nephews. He was blessed to be a great grand pappy to Ryan, Charlie, and Grey Vanhoy.
Born August 7, 1920 in Cleveland County, Mr. Proctor was the son of the late Phillip and Maggie Proctor and was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Rygel Proctor and three brothers, Lester, Albert, and Earl.
Mr. Proctor served in the United States Army during WWII receiving a Purple Heart for his injuries in the European Theater. He retired from Lutz-Yelton Tractor and Truck Company. He was a lifelong member of Zion Baptist Church in Shelby and a member of Max Cornwell Sunday School Class.
The Proctor family would like to express a sincere thanks to the staff at the NC State Veterans Home in Black Mountain for the loving care that they gave Mr. Proctor during his stay.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 am Thursday, May 18, 2017 at Zion Baptist Church in Shelby conducted by Rev. Matt Storie. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors.
Memorial contributions can be made to Rutherford County Honor Guard, 564 Terry Road, Ellenboro, NC 28040 or to the memorial of ones choice.
