On October 1, 2024, Madge Ethel Blanton Ledbetter “Ethel” entered the loving arms of Jesus. She left this world surrounded by the love of family, and the precious spirit of Christ her Savior. Ethel was born on September 24, 1932, as the baby of the family. Ethel was the youngest of 14 children.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, James Everette Ledbetter, her father (Lucion Victor Blanton), her mother (Sallie Ella Scruggs Blanton), and her 4 brothers and 8 sisters. (Collis Blanton, Harland Blanton, Verdie Pearson, Arvie Blanton, Quinton Blanton, Estelle Pruitt, Geneva Ledbetter, Ralph Blanton, Virginia Holland, Grace Francis, and two infant siblings).
She leaves behind three children: Alan Ledbetter (Donna), Bonita Curtiss, and Scott Ledbetter-Heery (John). Also, she leaves six grandchildren: Stacie Funderburk (Jeremy), Angela Peters, Jamie Mathis, Brandi Ledbetter (Russ), Chase Ledbetter (Mary), and Keely Wooten (Terrill). Twelve great-grandchildren: Dustyn Peters (MaKayla), Zachary Funderburk, Tanner Funderburk, Hallee Mathis, Ayden Lyash, Everette Ledbetter, Henry Ledbetter, Anderson Ledbetter, Oakland Collier Hyatt, Hessentine Ledbetter, Adalei Wooten, and a baby girl who is still on the way. She also has two great-great grandchildren: Lakelyn Peters and Chandler Peters, and many nephews, nieces, and friends.
She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all her loved ones. Even if she didn’t know you, she always made you feel loved and welcomed as if she had known you for a lifetime. Ethel was always a social butterfly. She loved to chat with people and feel the companionship of others. Quality time was her love language. If she could visit or have someone “stay a while” she was at her happiest. She was selfless, always putting others first whether it be to babysit, run an errand, or be the last to sit at family dinners to ensure everyone else was taken care of. She loved going for a ride to the beach or the mountains or just across the state line to Gaffney to accompany one of her loved ones to fill their tank with gas. She always had a smile on her face and faced every challenge in life with optimism, positivity, and a good attitude. She was fierce, strong, and an excellent homemaker and she loved worshipping her Savior when she was able to go to church or watch her favorite pastors on TV. She filled the lives that she touched with laughter, happiness, and memories that will stay in the hearts and minds of all who knew her forever. She will be missed greatly but she would want you to accept Christ as your Lord and Savior so that you too can join her one day on the streets of gold in heaven alongside of her and Jesus.
Receiving of friends will be on Thursday, October 3rd, 2024 from 1 pm to 2 pm at Cleveland Funeral Services and Crematory.
