Carl Mcwhirter Sr.

Shelby, North Carolina

Carl Owen McWhirter Sr., affectionately known as “Pop” by those who loved him, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Thursday December 23, 2021 at his home. Carl was born in Shelby, North Carolina on September 15, 1934. He was the son of the late Charles Perry and Linnie Shull McWhirter

Carl had a passion for education and taught at Kings Mountain High School for thirty years. He was a pioneer in the field of technology education in the 1970s and 1980s and was a beloved English teacher. He was an avid collector and loved his cars, his cigars, and his library of video recordings.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Carolyn McWhirter and his grandson Camden McWhirter.

Carl is survived by his son Owen of Chesnee, his son Alan and wife Lena of Shelby, his son Colin and wife Kay of Shelby, and daughter Laura Webb of Huntersville. His surviving grandchildren include; Candice McWhirter and her children Matthew, Noah, and Jaxon, Erin Bryant and husband John, Kendyl McWhirter, Breanna Webb, and Gracie McWhirter.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at Sunset Cemetery conducted by Rev. Mark Pritchett.
