Evia Mcabee Cordell

December 26, 1927 — May 5, 2020

Evia Merriell McAbee Cordell, age 92 of Shelby, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, May 5, 2020.

She is survived by her children, Tony Cordell and wife Patti of Titusville, FL, and Terisa Champion and husband Joe of Shelby, NC, five grandchildren, Jennifer Mull Potter and husband Aaron of Shelby, NC, Joseph Scott Champion and wife Jackie of York, SC, Jason Aaron Cordell and wife Heather of Edgewater, FL, Jerrod Anthony Cordell and wife Britany of Cocoa, FL, and Brent Owen Mossbrooks and wife Makiko of Melbourne, FL, eleven great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren and a sister, Imogene Carroll McAbee Ruff of Ft. Mill, SC.

Born December 26, 1927 in Cleveland County, Merriell was the daughter of the late Robert Wesley and Zettie Lawter McAbee and was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, James Alvin Cordell, a daughter, Cynthia Cordell Mull and her husband Bill Mull and a sister Thelma Hester.

Merrill worked and retired after 49 years from Winn-Dixie in Shelby. She was a faithful member of Lily Memorial Baptist Church where she sang in the choir.  Merriell enjoyed bowling, word puzzles, working in her flower garden, and spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Merrill also loved spending time in the mountains with her family.

A private service will be held at Cleveland Funeral Services.  Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery.  Mrs. Cordell will be available to visit throughout the day on Friday, May 8, 2020 at the funeral home.
