Stella Downey

Stella Mae Butler Downey, age 80, of Forest City, NC, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 27, 2022.

She is survived by her sisters, Martha Wilson and husband Nix of Hickory, NC, Rachel Rice of Spartanburg, SC, Meredith Searcy and husband Albert of Rutherfordton, NC, and Margie Butler of Rutherfordton, NC, and a grandson, Shannon Downey of Forest City, NC.

Born September 1, 1941 in Rutherford County, NC, Stella was the daughter of the late James Ephram Butler and Annie Sue Francis Butler and was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Julius Walter Downey.  Stella retired from 41 years in textiles.  She was a weaver and cloth inspector.  Stella was a faithful member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church where she taught the Mary Sunday school class and young adults.  She also was a greeter, served in the prayer and jail ministry.  Stella also helped with the Good News Club.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2022 at Beaver Dam Baptist Church from11:30 am to 12:30 pm.  Funeral service will follow at 12:45 at the church conducted by Rev. Tom Runyon.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
