William "Carl" Soots

April 16, 1939 — April 29, 2021

Mr. William Carlton Soots (“Carl”), 82 of Shelby, NC passed away on April 29, 2021 and was reunited with Lynda, his beloved wife and best friend of 58 years, who passed in 2017.

He is survived by his three children, Andy Soots and wife Julie of Advance, NC, Danny Soots of Shelby, NC, and Tim Soots and wife Ashley of Irmo, SC, five grandchildren, Patricia McDowell and husband Mike of Kannapolis, NC, Timothy Soots and wife Jesica of Layton, UT, Haley Bouknight Soots Senn and husband Jacob of Lexington, SC, Joshua Soots, and Gabriel Soots, all of Irmo, SC, nine great grandchildren, Keith, Matthew, Jeremy, Remington, Lexie, Cooper, Tynsley, Sawyer, and Mavrik.

Carl was born April 16, 1939 in Martinsville, VA and was the son of the late Elvin Arnette Soots and Florine Elizabeth Gore Soots.

Carl served in Leadership roles in various companies including Fluor Daniel and Shaw Construction, overseeing the building of nuclear, oil and other companies, which took him and his family around the country.  He was also contracted in Vietnam to oversee the building of U.S. airstrips and bases for our country and was awarded a service medal for his efforts. Carl was a member of the Double Springs Baptist Church community, taking part in the fellowship of all members of his church family.  Until his prolonged illness, he enjoyed planting flowers in his yard, being outside watching his grandchildren and greatgrandchildren play. He loved the mountains and sharing the many memories of his and Lynda’s travels and funny stories of their younger years together with his friends, children, and grandchildren. Over the years he was moved to grow closer to the Lord Jesus Christ, who carried him through his fight with cancer and heartache of the loss of his beloved Lynda. He was given grace, continued endurance and strength to overcome and wanted all to know who had given it, His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at Double Springs Baptist Church conducted by his Reverend and dear friend, Rev. Bill Fryar.  A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery where he’ll be laid to rest.
